A DAO company serves as a legal wrapper for the members of a DAO or acts as an SPV (special purpose vehicle) for the legal structuring of various DAO activities. It provides a bridge between the on-chain and off-chain activities of the DAO.
It is true that a DAO legal wrapper is a type of legal structuring that serves a DAO, however these two terms refer to distinctively different scenarios.
A DAO legal wrapper provides DAO members with legal member status and limited liability protection. Conversely, a legal structure for a DAO’s functions is required when a DAO exists virtually on-chain. It needs legal structures in the form of SPVs (special purpose vehicles) to handle various activities like token issuance or ecosystem fund management. The DAO also delegates specific individuals to manage these SPVs.
The costs to register a company will include the cost of the Growth Plan subscription starting from $899 a month. It will also include the cost of the registration services provided by the registered agent working on your legal tasks. Registered agent costs start from $200, depending on the country in which you choose to register your operating company.
DAO registration typically takes between 2 and 6 weeks to complete, depending on where you choose to register your company. In some countries, like the Cayman Islands and the Marshall Islands, the registration process will take approximately 4 weeks to complete, while in Switzerland, the process can take a little longer, usually around 6 weeks.
